Meet Ashley

Ashley Delk Licata, MS, RD, CSSD is a sports dietitian who has worked with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. She has experience with nutrition counseling, nutrition education, fuel station design, body composition assessment, social media management, grocery store tours, nutrition material development, intern precepting, and teaching college courses on nutrition.

She received her B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics with a minor in Psychology from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. During her time at Samford, Ashley developed and directed the Sports Nutrition program in the athletic department. She then went on to receive her M.S. in Nutrition, with a focus in sports nutrition, from Georgia State University where she also completed her Dietetic Internship. During her time at Georgia State University, she worked as a graduate assistant in Dr. Dan Benardot’s sports nutrition research lab and provided nutrition counseling for the Atlanta Falcons.

Ashley is currently in the final stages of her PhD in Nutrition Sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During her time there, she started a Sports Nutrition program for the athletic department and held the position of Director of Performance Nutrition for 3 years. In addition, she served as the head dietitian for the UAB Football team. She especially enjoyed educating student-athletes on how to fuel their body correctly before, during, and after workouts as well as throughout the day to enhance the body’s capacity to recover from training and maximize performance. She has also conducted research with athletes on the relationships between energy balance and macronutrient timing and body composition. 

 She lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband John Licata, who is a pediatric resident at Levine Children’s Hospital.
